Meghalaya illegally set up cattle’s check point in National Highway
The Meghalaya Govt has illegal set up check posts for checking unauthorized transportation of cattle in National Highway for the past two months.
This came to light in a notification No. VET(G) 129/2017/Pt 1/44 dated.27/5/2022 where the operation of the livestock CHECK-POSTS notified at Umling, Umkiang and Pynursla vide notification No. VET (G) 129/2017/236 dated 8th March, 2022 is hereby suspended with immediate effect till such time NOC is obtained from NHAI.
In order to check unauthorized transportation of cattle into the Meghalaya State, the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department has set up seven check-posts in the State for checking of vehicles carrying cattle and verification of Transit Permits issued by the Department on March, 2022.
This is in pursuance of Notification No. VET(G) 129/2017/226 Dated Shillong. 26th October 2021 for transportation of Bovine animal including cattle into Meghalaya State.
The seven check posts are Byrnihat (near Police station) and Jirang Junction in Ri-Bhoi District, Umkiang in East Jaintia Hills District, Bajengdoba in North Garo Hills, Trikrikilla in West Garo Hills, Aradonga in West Khasi Hills District and Pynursla in East Khasi hills District.
