Meghalaya implements ECI guidelines for fair Lok Sabha Elections
In adherence to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India in relation to Model Code of Conduct (MCC), which came into effect upon the announcement of the 2024 General Elections to the Lok Sabha, significant measures have been undertaken within the state over the last 72 hours to ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.
A statement issued on Tuesday highlighted that various districts have promptly issued prohibitory orders to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process. Additionally, activation and placement of Flying Squads in all Assembly Segments, along with the activation of Expenditure Monitoring agencies, have been reported.
Government departments have been sensitized on the provisions of the Model Code of Conduct and photos of political functionaries are being removed from government websites, as stated in the release. The statement also notes the removal of defacement from government, public and private properties over the past 72 hours since the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.
Moreover, to enforce the Model Code of Conduct, numerous posters have been removed from Government premises (109) and public spaces (248), banners removed from Government premises (228) and public spaces (440) and hoardings removed from Government premises (43) and public spaces (58).
In terms of defacement cleanup, 323 instances have been addressed on government properties within 24 hours, 599 instances on public properties within 48 hours, and 253 instances on private properties within 72 hours.
