Meghalaya Legislative Assembly awarded for swift implementation of NeVA
The Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has been awarded by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for its efficient implementation of the National eVidhan Application (NeVA). Meghalaya Assembly is one of the nine to successfully adopt this application.
The award was presented to the Meghalaya Assembly by Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, during the National Workshop on NeVA held at the Convention Hall of The Ashok in New Delhi on May 25.
Dapborlang Marwein, Computer Programmer and Nodal Officer (NeVA), Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and Lawanda Lyndem, Deputy Secretary Parliamentary Affairs Department and Nodal Officer for NeVA, received the award.
Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma, and Deputy Chief Ministers, Prestone Tynsong and Sniawbhalang Dhar, extended their congratulations to the NeVA team and the IT Cell of the Meghalaya Assembly for their exceptional efforts in swiftly implementing NeVA.
Dr. Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs for acknowledging the State Government and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat’s endeavors.
“The members of the Legislative Assembly have found NeVA helpful. I’m sure members will adapt to the new technology and we will cut down the use of papers,” the Commissioner & Secretary said.
Speaking on the launch of the NeVA project Dr. Andrew Simons informed that on 27th March 2020, a State Project Monitoring Unit (SPMU) cum NeVA Implementation Committee was formed, headed by the Chief Secretary of the Government of Meghalaya. A Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on 30th March 2020, between the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, the Government of Meghalaya, and the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly and a House Committee for e-governance and general purpose was established on 20th November 2020.
The Detailed Project Report was finally approved by the State Project Monitoring Unit on 21st September 2020, and the project was officially launched in the state on 18th March 2021.
The Commissioner and Secretary highlighted that the project is funded by the Government of India and the state government, with a contribution ratio of 90:10, respectively.
