Meghalaya & Nagaland to vote on Feb 27 while Tripura on Feb 16

The Election Commission of India on Wednesday announced the date of voting to the Legislative Assembly of Tripura on February 16, next while Meghalaya and Nagaland will go to polls on February 27, next
In regard to the polling of Tripura, date of issuing official gazettee is January 21 next while last date of filing nomination is January 30 next and scrutiny will be held on 31 January and last date of withdrawal of nomination is February 2, next.
For Meghalaya and Nagaland, date of issuing official gazettee is January 31 next while last date of filing nomination is February 7 next and scrutiny will be held on February 8 and last date of withdrawal is February 10 next.
The counting of votes for all three states will held on the same date viz March 2,next.
The announcement of the polling dates marked the commencement of model code of conduct or MCC in the three polling states from Wednesday till the completion of polling exercise in all these three states.
All the provisions of the Model Code will apply to Meghalaya with regard to all candidates, political parties and the Meghalaya government as well as of Tripura and Nagaland.
The Model Code of Conduct shall also be applicable to the Union Government in so far as announcements/policy decisions pertaining to/for Meghalaya, Nagaland and Tripura.
The Commission has made elaborate arrangements forensuring the effective implementation of MCC Guidelines.
Any violation of these Guidelines would be strictly dealt with and the Commission re-emphasizes that the instructions issued in this regard from time to time should be read and understood by all political parties, contesting candidates and their agents/representatives, to avoid any misgivings or lack of information or inadequate understanding/interpretation.
The Governments of the poll-bound States have also been directed to ensure that no misuse of official machinery/position is done during the MCC period.
The Commission has also issued instructions for swift, effective and stringent action for enforcement of Model Code of Conduct during the first 72 hours of announcement of the election schedule and also for maintaining extra vigilance and strict enforcement action in the last 72 hours prior to the close of polls.
These instructions have been issued in the form of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for compliance by the field election machinery.
