Meghalaya: One Home Guard volunteer killed as speeding car dragged him
Last night at 11:15 PM while the Police personnel were conducting duty at the newly opened weighbridge located at Khliehtyrshi, Jowai Bypass, one Maruti Suzuki Swift B/R No. AS 11 H 1957 ran over the Police check point located near the weighbridge and did not stop.
The Check Point was placed with the drums and florescent barricades in a straight stretch road with no sharp curves and though the said vehicle was signaled to stop, it did not stop and instead rammed the barricades and dragged 3 (Three) people into a ditch.
During the process one Home Guard Volunteer viz., HGV Luckyson Dhar of Ummulong Beat House, Hav R Dkhar of 4th MLP Bn and Danny Dkhar, civilian who were 10 (Ten) feet away from the barricades were dashed by the said vehicle and dragged them and the vehicle then fled away from the spot. The vehicle was later intercepted about 2 (Two) Kms from the place of occurrence, but the driver was not present and have fled away to the jungle.
In a press communique, Superintendent of Police West Jaintia Hills District Lakador Syiem, MPS informed that on received of the information, Shri MJ Marngar, MPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police (Hqr/Traffic), Shri J Mairom, MPS, Dy. Superintendent of Police (L&O), OC Jowai PS, IC Phramer Traffic Cell and IC Ummulong BH rushed to the spot and the 3 (Three) injured persons were immediately shifted to Ialong Civil Hospital for treatment. However, the HGV personnel viz., HGV Luckyson Dhar was declared brought dead by the medical officer, the BNC personnel Hav R Dkhar of 4th MLP Bn was referred to NEIGRIHMS, Shillong for better treatment and Shri Danny Dkhar, civilian was given first aid at Ialong Civil Hospital and later discharged.
The SP informed that search operation was conducted during the whole night till today morning and at around 7:00 AM, 3 (Three) suspected persons were detained. During interrogation it was found that the driver Samim Ahmed Mazarbhuiya-40 years resident of Terapur, Ramnagar village, Silchar, District Cachar, Assam is the main suspect accused in the instant case and the 2 (Two) other persons who were found with the driver were not found to be involved and hence released.
Further interrogation is being made in this regard and a case is being registered accordingly.
