Meghalaya: One more dies of COVID-19, death toll at 91
A 52-year-old man died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 91 on Thursday.
Santosh Pradhan, a resident of Lachumiere passed away at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) on Wednesday. He was tested positive for COVID-19 at Woodland hospital on October 25, before being referred to NEIGRIHMS the following day, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due to refractory shock with multi organ dysfunction syndrome with Covid pneumonia with type II diabetes mellitus with hypertension,” he said.
The state has also recorded 92 new cases and 61 recoveries on Thursday.
The new cases include 22 from East Khasi Hills district, 18 West Jaintia Hills district, 17 East Garo Hills district, 14 East Jaintia Hills district, 9 West Garo Hills district, 6 South West Garo Hills district, 5 Ri Bhoi district and 1 North Garo Hills district.
Of the 61 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the infection, Dr War said 39 are from East Khasi Hills, 6 East Jaintia Hills, 6 East Garo Hills, 5 West Garo Hills, 2 North Garo Hills, 1 Ri Bhoi, 1 South West Garo Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills.
The state has detected a total of 9,893 COVID-19 out of which 989 are active cases, 8,813 recovered and 91 deaths.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 312 positive cases that include 23 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 289 civilians, Ri Bhoi 261, West Garo Hills 144, West Jaintia Hills 105, East Garo HIlls 65, East Jaintia Hills 47, North Garo Hills 15, West Khasi Hills 14, South Garo Hills 11, South West Garo Hills 13 and South West Khasi Hills 2.
“Till date, swab samples of 2,07,471 persons have been tested of which 1,97,578 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 55,329 entrants from outside the state.
