Meghalaya: One more dies of COVID-19, death toll rises to 111
A sixty-two year old man died of COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 111 on Saturday.
Stanis Lyngdoh of Mawlai Mawtawar passed away at the Shillong civil hospital on Saturday morning, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
He said Lyngdoh was tested COVID-19 positive at Nazareth hospital on November 18, before he was referred and admitted at the civil hospital on November 20.
“The cause of death was due to COVID pneumonia with acute respiratory distress syndrome with brain infarct with herniation,” he said.
The state has also recorded the highest single-day recoveries of 129 COVID-19 patients and detection of 71 new cases on Saturday.
He said the patients who recovered from the viral infection include 71 from East Khasi Hills district, 23 West Khasi Hills district, 14 South West Khasi Hills district, 7 East Garo Hills district, 6 West Garo Hills district, 3 North Garo Hills district, 2 Ri Bhoi district, 2 West Jaintia Hills district and 1 East Jaintia Hills district.
Of 71 new cases, Dr War said 53 are from East Khasi Hills, 9 West Garo Hills, 3 Ri Bhoi, 3 West Jaintia Hills, 2 North Garo Hills and 1 West Khasi Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 11,704 COVID-19 cases out of which 858 are active cases, 10,735 recovered and 111deaths.
Dr War said the fatality rate due to COVID-19 is 0.95 percent.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 435 positive cases, West Garo Hills 257, South Garo Hills 49, Ri Bhoi 34, South West Garo Hills 25, East Garo Hills 20, West Jaintia Hills 16, East Jaintia Hills 9, West Khasi Hills 6 and North Garo Hills 7.
“Till date, swab samples of 2,39,176 persons have been tested of which 2,27,427 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 64,232 entrants from outside the state.
