Meghalaya: one more dies of COVID-19, toll at 94
A 44-year-old man who had tested positive for COVID-19 died, taking the death toll in the state to 94 on Monday.
Sonkor Arengh, a resident of Hawakhana, Tura passed away at the Tura civil hospital on Sunday morning. He was tested positive for COVID-19 on being admitted on November 6, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
“The cause of death was due septic shock with multi organ dysfunction with liver disease with pancreatitis,” he said.
The state has also recorded 28 new cases and 37 recoveries on Monday.
The new cases include 15 from East Khasi Hills district, 5 East Garo Hills district, 4 West Garo Hills district, 2 Ri Bhoi district, 1 South West Garo Hills district and 1 West Jaintia Hills district.
Of the 37 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the infection, Dr War said 21 are from East Khasi Hills, 7 West Garo Hills, 3 West Jaintia Hills, 2 East Jaintia Hills, 2 Ri Bhoi, 1 East Garo Hills and 1 North Garo Hills.
The state has detected a total of 10,230 COVID-19 out of which 1,024 are active cases, 9,112 recovered and 94 deaths.
Of the total active cases, East Khasi Hills has 296 positive cases that include 22 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 274 civilians, Ri Bhoi 313, West Garo Hills 119, West Jaintia Hills 101, East Garo Hills 86, East Jaintia Hills 48, North Garo Hills 13, West Khasi Hills 14, South Garo Hills 15, South West Garo Hills 18 and South West Khasi Hills 1.
“Till date, swab samples of 2,12,448 persons have been tested of which 2,02,218 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 56,946 entrants from outside the state.
