Meghalaya partnership with International Internal Gateway for provide high speed internet via Bangladesh

In order to keep pace with the State’s evolving Information Technology landscape, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “A partnership with International Internet Gateway (IIG) project is being worked out, which will ensure reliable and high-speed internet connectivity via Bangladesh” while announcing the allocation of Rs. 132 Crore for the IT sector for 2025-26.
Sangma said the State has designated IT/ITeS as a priority sector under the Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy 2024 while the policy incentivizes companies with Rs. 3,000 per employee per month for three years, for the first 15,000 jobs created during the presentation of budget.
The Chief Minister said that the phase -2 of Shillong Tech Park is nearing completion, and it will be operationalized this calendar year while the construction of Tura Tech Park is progressing well and he further added that the 2 new tech parks will cumulatively lead to the creation of additional 4,000 direct employment and 11,000 indirect employment opportunities
Sangma said that the Government has managed to complete the construction of 98% of the planned telecom towers, ensuring 4G connectivity even in the remotest parts of the State. He also informed nearly 89% of villages are connected through at least one telecom technology and they aspired to cover the balance villages and improve the bandwidth in the coming years. Last mile connectivity and broadband services are being strengthened in partnership with PowerTel using the transmission network of MePTCL, he added.
