Meghalaya people are not racial: LO to political opponents
Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Saturday slammed the political opponents for trying to infuse among the citizens a sense of racial mindset towards the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).
“You will listen to the speeches of many leaders and get it recorded I am telling you it is leaders who are trying to infuse this sense of racial mindset to say I am the only one who is the messiah to protect the interest of the jaidbynriew but after getting elected what do they do – they agree to give even our tribal land to Assam. So who is honest and committed to serve the so-called jaidbynriew,” Sangma told reporters.
He said the narrative that AITC is a “Bengal party” is being circulated and amplified by the political opponents because they want to create that kind of perception which revolves around that sense of racial mindset.
“Why they are saying it is a Bengal party is because they are scared of this party, because they don’t have anything else to speak against this party other than this. You ask them if they have any other points,” he said.
According to him, apart from Meghalaya and Assam, many other states in the North East are indicating their desire to actually build this party in their respective states.
Stating that the people of Meghalaya are not at all racial, Sangma said, “You go to Kolkata every Christmas, how many families from Khasi Hills region actually go to Kolkata to spend their time. You look at the number of tourists if you are calculating from the demographic perspective – for all the footfalls of the tourists visiting the state of Meghalaya you will see maximum tourists who are from West Bengal.”
He said there is a beautiful connect not only from time immemorial adding talked about our senior leaders of the past, they did their higher education from many of the premiere institutions of Kolkata be it the former chief ministers and senior leaders of their time.
This clearly indicates our people of Meghalaya do not suffer from that racial mindset, he added.
