Meghalaya Police adopted six strategies to combat drug menace: DGP

Meghalaya Police DGP Dr. LR Bishnoi emphasized that police need the support of the community and even the church to combat drug menace.
Bishnoi told media persons in Lumshnong, East Hills District on Thursday.
The DGP maintained that the police can only contribute to cutting the supply chain by arresting and seizing drugs entering the state. However, to curb the menace, it is essential to address the demand for these drugs, he added.
Bishnoi informed that they have conducted over 1500 awareness campaigns at the community level and organized awareness programs in educational institutions across the state.
The DGP said in the fight against drug menace, the Meghalaya police have adopted six strategies.
He further said these strategies involve creating awareness by engaging the community and educational institutions.
He also said reinforcing enforcement, providing better training to police personnel to deal with the menace.
He said that promoting rehabilitation by linking victims with the Social Welfare Department and the Health Department.
Bishnoi stressed the importance of media support in combating the drug menace. He also highlighted the police force’s adaptation to modern times by utilizing available technology to combat the problem.
Bishnoi emphasized the establishment of a state-of-the-art Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) unit within the police department, eliminating the need to rely on other states for testing drugs seized within Meghalaya.
