Meghalaya Police issues alert on AnyDesk App
Alerting the people of Meghalaya not to download any apps from unsolicited callers, the Meghalaya Police said fraudster(s) could easily scam people and rob them of their money through apps such Any Desk.
The alert is according to a press release issued by East Khasi Hills SP (City) Vivek Syiem on Monday.
Syiem said that it has come to light that scamsters are posing as agents of courier service such as FedEx and calling targeted citizens that consignment(s) in their name contains contraband substances.
He also said additionally, the scamsters also involve others using the name Central Law Enforcement Agencies such as Customs, CBI, NCB, etc who inform that the target’s credentials are being used for money laundering and needs to transfer large amounts to an account which they claim to be for RBI clearance.

The SP (City) informed that in order to scare their targets, the fraudsters also present the looming threat of arrest in most cases.
He further said in certain other cases, they are asked to register online complaints through some apps like any desk etc. which may be used in turn to dupe unsuspecting targets. Hence do not download Apps from unsolicited callers, he added.
Syiem said the public are hereby requested to verify if a call is received for an unordered item.
He also requested the people that any incident of such nature may be reported to their respective police station for ascertaining the veracity of it and for further police action.
He also said the matter can also be reported to Cybercrime helpline number 1930 and also to Police Control Room, Shillong at 0364-2215427 and at 6009196479.
