Meghalaya Police recovered arms, HNLC flags and gelatin sticks in Ri Bhoi District

The Meghalaya Police on Wednesday recovered one small arms, several Gelatin sticks, detonators and ignition fuses alongside HNLC flags and other incriminating materials from the Sleeper Cell cadres of the proscribed HNLC in Ri Bhoi District.

The recovery was made after the Police arrested four HNLC Sleeper Cell cadres namely Damanbha Ripnar alias Shall Lapang, Robinis Ripnar, Jill Tariang and Shining Nongrum from Ri-Bhoi District on Tuesday. Police already seized 15 Gelatin Sticks, 167 splinters (shrapnel inside the IED), 1 safety fuse wire, 3 numbers of Non electric Detonators, ML-12-3243 (Bolero Pick-Up and five Mobile Phones from their possession in the arrest.

Police said that the recovery on Wednesday was in continuation of the investigation under Nongpoh PS case no 25(3)2024 U/S 120B/121A IPC R/w sec 10/13/18 UA(P)Act and sec 5/6 Explosives substance act.

Police said that the entire seizure was made on leading of the accused while house search was being conducted.

Police asserted the same sleeper cell hoisted HNLC flags in recent years at behest of Bangladesh based fugitives of proscribed HNLC.

Police said the Modus operandi unearthed so far is that Bangladesh based fugitives give directions to the sleeper cells.

Police said that inducement of huge monetary rewards including new vehicles was given to the sleeper cell members to execute IED blasts. Further investigation is underway.
