Meghalaya police warns action against spread of communal hatred
The state police on Wednesday warned to take stern action against those trying to disturb the communal harmony in the state.
“…any misgiver trying to transgress the sanctity of communal harmony shall be dealt with firmly by invocation of statutory legal provision,” a statement issued by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) GK Iangrai said.
The statement also requested the citizens to inform the nearest police stations on any information which poses threat to social harmony and that such disclosure will be kept confidential.
The appeal was made after there have been some people who are trying to spread communal hatred in the social media platform and other public places intending to falter the social harmony system prevailing in the state.
“Through this medium of appeal it is exhorted that they may please refrain from such activities which negates the social fabric and anyone trying to incite communal disharmony in any form legal action shall be taken,” the statement said.
Stating that the festive seasons of the various communities are approaching, the state police also urged the citizens to uphold the values of national integration and communal harmony and maintained the rubric of democracy.
The citizens and netizens are requested to avert from any kind of unsavoury comments and enactment of any forms of social disturbance on basis of community lines vice versa so as to enable the state to retain the name as a prestine state for social harmony and sets its records in the annals of history, it said.
