Meghalaya records 497 new COVID-19 cases, 9 deaths
Nine more persons have succumbed to COVID-19 on Saturday taking the death toll in the state to 652.
According to the Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War, 7 deaths were reported in East Khasi Hills district and 1 each in Ri Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district.
The state has also recorded 497 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the total number of active cases stands at 5,797.
Dr War said the new cases include 204 in East Khasi Hills, 102 West Garo Hills, 49 Ri Bhoi, 36 South West Garo Hills, 34 West Jaintia Hills, 24 South West Khasi Hills, 17 East Garo Hills, 13 East Jaintia Hills, 8 West Khasi Hills, 5 South Garo Hills and 5 North Garo Hills.
He also informed that as many as 801 patients have also recovered from the viral infection during the past 24 hours.
Of these, 309 are from East Khasi Hills, 129 West Garo Hills, 118 Ri Bhoi, 66 West Jaintia Hills, 33 East Jaintia Hills, 33 South West Khasi Hills, 30 North Garo Hills, 26 West Khasi Hills, 26 East Garo Hills, 24 South West Garo Hills and 7 South Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 38,230 COVID-19 cases out of which 5,797 are active cases, 31,781 recovered and 652 deaths.
With 2,502 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong, is the worst affected district in the state, followed by West Garo Hills with 683 cases and Ri Bhoi with 629 cases.
There are 593 West Jaintia Hills, 372 South West Garo Hills, 296 South West Khasi Hills, 175 West Khasi Hills, 174 East Jaintia Hills, 165 North Garo Hills, 116 East Garo Hills and 92 South Garo Hills.
