Meghalaya records 634 new COVID-19 cases, 16 deaths
Sixteen more persons have succumbed to COVID-19, taking the death toll to 336 on Monday.
Of these, 14 are from East Khasi Hills district, 1 West Jaintia Hills district and 1 East Jaintia Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
The state also recorded highest single-day spike of 634 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the number of active cases to nearly 5,000.
Dr War said new cases include 443 in East Khasi Hills, 89 Ri Bhoi, 41 West Jaintia Hills, 21 North Garo Hills, 15 West Garo Hills, 12 East Jaintia Hills, 7 South West Garo Hills, 3 West Khasi Hills and 3 East Garo Hills.
He informed that of 237 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 128 are from East Khasi Hills, 1 East Garo Hills, 8 East Jaintia Hills, 4 North Garo Hills, 58 Ri Bhoi, 11 South West Garo Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills, 9 West Garo Hills, 10 West Jaintia Hills and 5 West Khasi Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 23,966 COVID-19 cases out of which 4,915 are active cases, 18,715 recovered and 336 deaths.
With 2,799 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 682 cases.
There are 405 cases in West Garo Hills, 324 West Jaintia Hills, 183 South West Garo Hills,182 East Jaintia Hills, 151 West Khasi Hills, 66 South Garo Hills, 60 North Garo Hills, 43 East Garo Hills and 20 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 5,10,902 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,86,936 were tested negative for the virus even as 963 persons are in institutional quarantine and 3,952 under home quarantine.
There are 1,18,489 entrants from outside the state.
28,090 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,413 had received the second dose, while 74,583 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 26,413 got the second dose as on Monday.
Moreover, 2,26,381 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 28,223 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
