Meghalaya records 96% recovery from COVID-19
The state’s recovery record from COVID-19 has surged to 96 per cent after one more patient has recovered from the disease on Wednesday.
“We now have only 3 active cases after one more patient from West Garo Hills has recovered from the disease,” Health Minister AL Hek told reporters.
Hek said altogether 42 of 46 positive patients have recovered from the COVID infection. The three active cases include two in South West Garo Hills and one in East Khasi Hills.
The minister informed that a total of 16,937 of the 17,468 samples sent for testing were found negative while test results of 485 are awaited.
Earlier, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said that over 96 per cent of COVID-19 cases have recovered in the state. “With today’s recovery, the state is having the least number of COVID-19 cases,” he said.
Asked, Tynsong said the visit of the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to Manipur is treated as official. “Politically, he is the national president of the NPP…(His visit to Manipur) is treated as official,” he said.
The deputy CM however said a provision in a notification issued on June 2, clearly stated that high officials including CM if they undertake any official tour outside the state will have to go for RT-PCR test on their return to the state. He said if the test is negative, they are allowed to join office but with necessary precautions.
