Meghalaya records highest single-day deaths
The state has recorded yet another highest single-day fatality spike of 6 deaths due to COVID-19 on Wednesday, taking the state’s total death to 191.
Seventy five-year-old Monmaya Sangma of Chehruphi, East Jaintia Hills passed away at the Shillong civil hospital due to ARDS with Covid-19 pneumonia with suspected Ca Oesophagus while Rev Krickwin ChM arak (70) of Goanang, Tura, West Garo Hills was declared brought dead to Tura civil hospital on Tuesday. The cause of his death was due to Covid positive with multiple comorbidities, Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
The other four deceased include Kresensia Mawrie (65) of Laitkor Rngi (passed away at Nazareth hospital), Tesmen Salahe (36) of Samasi, East Jaintia Hills (brought dead to Norman Tunnel hospital), Ashutosh Kuman Singh (36) of Mission Compound, Jowai, West Jaintia Hills (MCH hospital Jowai) and Synshar Jyrwa (35) of Pynthorbah, Shillong (Nazareth hospital).
Meanwhile, the state has also recorded 269 new cases, taking the total number of active cases to 2,135, while 147 have recovered from the disease, pushing up the number of recoveries to 15,957.
Dr War said the new cases include 198 in East Khasi Hills district, 18 West Garo Hills district, 13 West Khasi Hills district, 11 East Garo Hills district, 8 South Garo Hills district, 7 West Jaintia Hills district, 5 Ri Bhoi district, 5 South West Garo Hills district and 1 North Garo Hills district.
He informed that of 147 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 115 are from East Khasi Hills, 12 West Garo Hills, 8 Ri Bhoi, 3 East Garo Hills, 3 South West Khasi Hills, 2 East Jaintia Hills, 2 West Jaintia Hills, 1 West Khasi Hills and 1 South West Garo Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 18,277 COVID-19 cases out of which 2,135 are active cases, 15,957 recovered and 191 deaths.
With 1,377 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 198 cases, 160 West Garo Hills, 101 in West Jaintia Hills, 94 East Jaintia Hills, 80 West Khasi Hills, 30 East Garo Hills, 26 South West Garo Hills, 27 South Garo Hills 23, South West Khasi Hills, and 19 in North Garo Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,74,680 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,56,397 were tested negative for the virus even as 446 persons are in institutional quarantine and 1,689 under home quarantine.
There are 1,15,923 entrants from outside the state.
25,892 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 18,718 had received the second dose, while 48,532 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,165 got the second dose as on Wednesday.
Moreover, 1,79,532 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 19,994 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
