Meghalaya records highest single day spike of 11 COVID-19 deaths, 375 new cases detected
The death count in the state due to COVID-19 crossed the 200-mark on Saturday. The disease has claimed 11 lives, the highest in a single day this year, taking the death toll to 210.
The state recorded 375 more new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours pushing the number of active cases to 2,678.
Eighty-year-old Nancy Khongjee of Mawlynnong village passed away at the Dr H Gordon Roberts hospital on Friday night. The cause of death was due to Covid pneumonia with ARDS with hypertension, DHS (MI) Dr Aman War said.
Three persons also died at the same hospital and they are Skindro Dkhar (51) of Mission Compound, Jowai, Pyrkhat Gympad (60) of Lower Mawprem and Banteidorlang Lyngdoh (35) of Nongtyngar.
He said the other deceased persons include Amanda Rynjah (38) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, who passed away at the Nazareth hospital, Bun Paswet (60) of Panaliar, Jowai at Woodland hospital, Shillong, Tret Mawnai (48) of Nongbsap ‘A, who was brought dead to Sohiong CHCH, Manoj Kumar Choudhury (61) of Umroi Cantonment at Shillong civil hospital, Bina Rani Dey (77) of Nongthymmai at Nazareth hospital, Jennar Sutnga (60) of Chutwakhu, Jowai at Shillong civil hospital and Hordwin Myrboh (64) of Mawlynrei Dong Shyiap at Supercare hospital.
Dr War said of 375 new cases, 210 are in East Khasi Hills district, 73 Ri Bhoi, 32 South West Garo Hills, 18 West Jaintia Hills, 12 West Garo Hills, 12 West Khasi Hills, 11 East Jaintia Hills, 4 North Garo Hills, 2 East Garo Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills.
He informed that of 152 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 109 are from East Khasi Hills, 18 East Jaintia Hills, 15 West Garo Hills, 8 Ri Bhoi, 1 West Jaintia Hills and 1 South West Khasi Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 19,302 COVID-19 cases out of which 2,678 are active cases, 16,414 recovered and 210 deaths.
With 1,583 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 352 cases, 184 West Garo Hills, 119 in West Jaintia Hills, 117 West Khasi Hills, 100 East Jaintia Hills, 74 South West Garo Hills, 48 South Garo Hills, 46 East Garo Hills, 31 North Garo Hills and 24 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,83,733 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,64,431 were tested negative for the virus even as 608 persons are in institutional quarantine and 2,070 under home quarantine.
There are 1,16,535 entrants from outside the state.
26,643 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,107 had received the second dose, while 54,642 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,719 got the second dose as on Saturday.
Moreover, 1,90,880 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 22,867 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
