Meghalaya sees record high of 18 deaths, toll at 228
The state on Sunday recorded its highest daily coronavirus death toll since the pandemic began last year.
“18 persons have died due to COVID-19, taking the death toll in the state to 228,” Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said.
Of this, 14 are from East Khasi Hills district, 3 from West Jaintia Hills district and 1 from West Garo Hills district.
The state has registered highest single-day spike of 418 more new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours pushing the number of active cases to 2,899.
Dr War said new cases include 275 in East Khasi Hills district, 57 West Garo Hills, 26 East Jaintia Hills, 20 West Jaintia Hills, 11 Ri Bhoi, 9 East Garo Hills, 6 South Garo Hills, 5 North Garo Hills, 5 West Khasi Hills and 4 South West Garo Hills,
He informed that of 179 patients who have recovered from the viral infection, 123 are from East Khasi Hills, 23 West Jaintia Hills, 10 Ri Bhoi, 8 East Jaintia Hills, 6 West Garo Hills, 4 South Garo Hills and 3 South West Khasi Hills.
So far, the state has detected a total of 19,720 COVID-19 cases out of which 2,899 are active cases, 16,593 recovered and 228 deaths.
With 1,723 active COVID-19 cases, East Khasi Hills, that includes state capital Shillong is the worst affected district in the state, followed by Ri Bhoi with 353 cases, 234 West Garo Hills, 120 West Khasi Hills, 118 East Jaintia Hills, 113 in West Jaintia Hills, 78 South West Garo Hills, 53 East Garo Hills, 36 North Garo Hills, 50 South Garo Hills and 21 South West Khasi Hills.
On the other hand, of the 4,86,058 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 4,66,338 were tested negative for the virus even as 634 persons are in institutional quarantine and 2,265 under home quarantine.
There are 1,16,750 entrants from outside the state.
26,719 healthcare workers had received the first dose of Covishield vaccine and 19,041 had received the second dose, while 55,328 frontline workers got the first shot of the vaccine and 25,736 got the second dose as on Sunday.
Moreover, 1,92,309 persons from among the general public were vaccinated with the first dose and 23,133 were inoculated with the second dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 across the state.
