Meghalaya Speaker reviews construction of new Assembly building
Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday reviewed the construction of the new building of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly at Mawdiangdiang under the New Shillong Township.
The Speaker discussed micro details of the project with department heads of the Public Works Department, Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited, National Informatics Centre, Forests and Environment, amongst others.
After the meeting, Lyngdoh said that he is satisfied with the progress of construction work as he added that “a lot of effort and work needs to be taken care of to ensure that we complete the project as scheduled”.
He said that it was a relief that the crane (only one of its kind in India) used in lifting the fabricated structure for the dome has completed about 75 percent of the work.
The Speaker further informed that the construction work of the minar, which is the top part of the dome, will begin next week.
“We intend to complete it by July, and commissioning and testing will be done in a month time…end of August,” he said.
The Speaker also expressed that the Government’s intention is to inaugurate the building by September.
On funding from the Government of India, he said that discussions were held with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Finance Department.
“I can say that we will be getting the funding from the Central Government,” he said.
