Meghalaya State Council for Indian System of Medicine constituted
The Meghalaya Government has constituted the Meghalaya Council for Indian System of Medicine for regulating the practice and all registration of practitioners of Indian System of Medicine in Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy in the State .
This is as per notification issued on December 4th this year in accordance with Section 31(1) of the National Commision of Indian Medicine Act, 2020.
The Council will be headed by the Director of Health Services (MI) as President, Dr. (Mrs.) T. Khongwir, Ayurvedic Physician, Ayush Drug Testing Laboratory as Registrar cum Member Secretary while Dr.S Kharmawphlang, Ayurvedic Physician, Nongpoh Civil Hospital, Dr. D. Das, Ayurvedic Physician, Civil Hospital, Tura and Dr. (Mrs) S. W. Pala, Ayurvedic Physician, Civil Hospital, Shillong as members. Besides, one member each from Siddha System, Unani System and Sowa Rigga System will be nominated by the Government as members of the Council.
According to the notification, the State Council shall maintain and regularly update the State Register and also submit a physical copy of the same to the Board of Ethics and Registration for Indian System of Medicine.
The State Council shall grant a license to any person who possesses a recognized qualification in the Indian System of Medicine under this Act and successfully qualifies the National Exit Test conducted under section 15.
Additionally, the Council shall ensure that no unqualified person practices the modern scientific system of medicine and takes necessary and expedient actions against unqualified individuals practicing modern medicine, as deemed appropriate.
The State Council shall collaborate with the central regulatory bodies and address State specific needs.
