Meghalaya State League: Khliehmawlieh YC defeat Atong Matgrik FC 7-1, Rangdajied and Ladthadlaboh draw 1-1
Khliehmawlieh Youth Club started their campaign in the Meghalaya State League 2023 with a huge 7-1 victory in Group D against Atong Matgrik FC at the Chandmari Ground Tura today.
The other two results of the day saw Rangdajied United FC held to a 1-1 draw by Ladthadlaboh SC at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Group B’s Jowai, while Langsning FC came through against Umkseh SC 3-1 in Group A’s Shillong at the MFA Turf.
All seven of Khliehmawlieh’s goals were scored by different players, with Rodyson Dkhar (14′) giving them the lead and team mate Sharan Sing Nonglang (20′) adding a second a few minutes later. Atong Matgrik pulled a goal back in the 36th minute through Rakchuwell Marak and 2-1 in favour of Khliehmawlieh is how the first half ended.
It changed dramatically in the second session, however, as a flurry of goals were buried into the Atong Matgrik net, starting with Istarbon Marngar (69′), who was followed by Lenny Kravity Lyngdoh (71′), Dadap Marwein (73′), Kynjai Marthong (83′) and substitute Rishotbor Lyngdoh (90’+3).
Over in Jowai, Rangdajied seized the lead through a near impossible long-range strike by Knerktilang Buam in the 12th minute. The ball had come to him through a poor pass by Ladthadlaboh and he only took a couple of touches before unleashing a screamer from 30 yards out.
The lead lasted less than 20 minutes, though, as an unmarked Ebanskhem Nongtdu tapped in a cross from the right in the 31st minute to restore parity and despite the all-out attempts from both clubs, the match ended square at 1-1.
At the MFA Turf in Shillong, Roikhihbha Nongtdu gave Langsning the best start imaginable with a brace within the first 10 minutes of the contest against Umkseh.
Milancy Khongstia picked out Nongtdu with a diagonal in the sixth minute and the No. 7 left-footed the ball into the net. Just three minutes later Khongstia sent the ball forward for Nongtdu again and, this time from a tighter angle, he scored with the shot coming off the upright before going in.
Umkseh did not give up the fight, however, as they found a goal of their own through a sensational free-kick by Kyrshan Khongsit (54′) from just outside the box, with the Langsning goalkeeper perhaps a little too far forward to deal with the attempt. Langsning, though, restored their two-goal margin through Arnesius Marwein (57′), who finished off the job after his team mate Wilbert Marbaniang’s header was blocked.
There will be just the one match tomorrow and it will be between Rymbai Iawpynsing SC and Niaw Wasa United at 2:30pm in Group B at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium in Jowai.
