Meghalaya to achieve 100% sanctioning of scheme under JJM by Dec: Tongkhar
Minister in-charge Public Health Engineering (PHE) Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar informed that department will complete hundred per cent sanctioning of the scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) by December, this year.
Speaking to reporters, Tongkhar said the good progress of work will happen after the monsoon season.
“I can tell you that 50% of the work will be completed by September itself,” Tongkhar said.
The minister informed that the cost of pipes has also come down which is good news for the local contractors who are implementing the JJM in the state.
He said earlier the department does not have the courage to order maximum pipes since the rate was too high and that it was directly affecting the local contractors.
This is because the amount estimated also includes the cost of pipes and if bought at a high rate, the extra cost will have to be deducted from the scheme.
“Since the rate of pipes has come down we have again requested the supplier company to resume back the supply. We have asked the company to supply at the reduced rate so that is good news to the local contractors,” he said.
