Meghalaya to construct super Football Complex worth Rs.732 crores to be Football Capital of India

In bid to translate the Meghalaya’s aspiration be the Football Capital of India into reality, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announced the construction of Rs. 732 Crore worth Football Complex in Mawkhanu, East Khasi Hills District which will be able to house 40,000 fans while its construction will commence in the next financial year.
Sangma said that the Government are also developing the overall ecosystem with grassroots infrastructure development including 25 new artificial turfs, and 140 grassroot centers and providing grants to local clubs, hosting large events, and engaging fans while adding that an amount of Rs. 10 crores will be allocated for the CM’s Football Mission.
Sangma said that the State have also hosted over ten national and international sports events since 2022, including the Indian Super League, the Durand Cup, the Elite Men’s Boxing Championship, and the ICF World Cup Qualifiers for India.
The Chief Minister informed that the major ongoing projects like the J.N. Stadium, the P.A. Sangma Sports Complex, the Ampati Stadium and the Jongksha Indoor Stadium will be completed soon while adding that an amount of Rs. 236 Crore stand allocated for completing ongoing projects and implementing new projects in 2025-26.
