Meghalaya to have its own Certification body soon
Chairman of Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) Abhishek Dev said that Meghalaya will soon have its very own certification body.
He was addressing the gathering at one-day Bharat Agri Conclave cum International Buyer-Seller Meet in Shillong, organized by APEDA along with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, government of Meghalaya on Saturday at Marriott.
He said that the international buyers can indulge in the abundant bounty that the state has to offer abroad.
Speaking of the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP), for which APEDA does the accreditation of the certification bodies, he said, “I’d like to inform that very soon, Meghalaya will have its own certification body. We expect the approval in two weeks-time. The constraints and issues which we know are faced by the farmers in getting certified will definitely be reduced to significant extent.”
He said that there are a lot of products which are abundant supply in Meghalaya which are of international quality such as the Pineapple, Lakadong turmeric, ginger, jackfruit, various spices, tea, coffee and even cashew.
“We need to ensure that the right connections are there between buyers and sellers and we need to export the products,” Dev said.
