Meghalaya to observe Police Flag Day
The state will observe the Commemoration Day and Police Flag Day at the district headquarters on October 21.
Assistant Inspector General of Police (A), GK Iangrai on Tuesday informed that wreaths will be placed at every memorial site in each district headquarter and the names of the martyrs will be read out on the auspicious occasion.
He said photographs of the martyrs as well as printable versions of the Police Flag will be displayed at the district headquarters.
Iangrai said the Meghalaya Police is honoured to have gallant policemen and women, who have withstood the ravages of times.
However, in its endeavour to promote peace, progress and harmony within the State, the department has melancholy lost 127 brave souls who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty, he said.
Police forces all over the country observes 21st October as the ‘Commemoration Day’ commemorating the supreme sacrifice and valour of 10 bravehearts who were martyred on 21st October 1959 at the Hot Springs in Ladakh.
On this day the nation pays homage to all the departed souls through the national programme organise in all the States of India and also, centrally at the National Police Memorial in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, which has been specially built in honour of all the policemen and women of the country, who had laid down their lives in the line of duty.
On this auspicious occasion of the Commemoration Day and the Police Flag Day, Meghalaya Police exhorts all esteemed citizens to join hands in paying reverence to the indomitable sacrifice of the martyrs of the country.
