Meghalaya to set up relief camps in mining areas
The state government has decided to set up relief camps in the “mining areas” for labourers who are stranded due to the nationwide lockdown to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
Informing this here on Monday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that there are concerns about the mining areas in the state.
“Some suggestions came in that relief camp be set up in the mining areas also as there are many labourers (stranded). That has been done in most of the mining areas and if there are any area which is left out, I will again check on that and ensure all steps are taken,” Sangma said.

Meanwhile, the chief minister informed that the government has already prepared the body management protocol.
“We have prepared the body management protocol and it is being circulated to all the deputy commissioners (DCs). They have all been sensitize and all of them are in the process of implementing it,” Sangma said.

Earlier following the unfortunate events that ensued after the first COVID-19 death, the state government has decided that crematorium of the Meghalaya Urban Development Authority at Jhalupara, managed and operate by the Greater Shillong Crematorium & Mortuary Society, be kept in operation and ready as and when necessary for cremation of COVID-19 victims.

The same shall also be used for incineration of bio-medical wastes.
