Meghalaya to undertake capacity building of service providers in Tourism Sector
With the vision of promoting high-tourism in Meghalaya, the State Tourism Department under the aegis of Tourism Mission is undertaking capacity building of local service providers from across the state, primarily aimed at the rural areas in the state.
The trainings are being conducted for up-skilling of local service providers in the Food and Beverages Sector, Housekeeping, Tourist Guide Services and other hospitality related services aimed at promoting the state as a High Value Tourism Destination.
This has become important in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic whereby tourists are looking to travel to places like Meghalaya. The aim of the training program is to create a cadre of young service providers who are caypable of delivering services comparable to three star and five-star service standards, according to the Tourism Director.
The Department of Tourism seeks to empanel resource persons with relevant experience and expertise in the tourism sector including operating and managing hotels, resorts, guest-houses, homestays; conducting tours; participation in tourism conclaves and tourism training sessions; running travel and tour companies.
