Meghalaya: Two more dies of COVID-19, 139 fresh cases detected
Two persons, who tested positive for COVID-19, succumbed to the viral infection, taking the death toll to 28 even as 139 new cases were detected on Monday, taking the count to 1,686.
46-year-old Iohbor Kharshohnoh, a resident of 7th Mile, Upper Shillong was declared brought dead to North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health & Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), while another 66 year-old Binod Kumar Geonka of Paltan Bazar passed in the same hospital here, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
He said Kharshohnoh was admitted at Bethany hospital at 7.20 am today, where he was tested positive for COVID-19 with rapid antigen test. He was later referred to NEIGRIHMS for further management.
“It appears that the patient had expired before reaching NEIGRIHMS. His body was sent back to Bethany hospital to complete all formalities. The cause of death was due to acute respiratory syndrome with COVID-10 and acute gastroenteritis and lower respiratory tract infection,” he said.
Dr War said Geonka was referred from Supercare hospital, where he was admitted since August 25, to NEIGRIHMS. He was having diabetes and hypertension.
“He was found to be positive for COVID-19 on being admitted to NEIGRIHMS but expired today at 12.40 pm. The immediate cause of death was due to type-I respiratory failure with COVID-19 pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome,” he said.
Of the new cases, Dr War said 124, including 85 civilians and 39 armed forces/paramilitary forces (AF/PF) personnel, were detected from East Khasi Hills district, 1 from West Garo Hills district, 12 from Ri Bhoi district and 2 from East Jaintia Hills district.
The cases from East Khasi Hills include 66 high risk cases, 39 AF/PF, 10 Laban cluster, 6 Golflink cluster, and 3 severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) cases while 8 high risk cases, 3 returnees and 1 cement factory cluster from Ri Bhoi, 2 high risk cases in East Jaintia Hills and 1 returnee in West Garo Hills.
Dr War also informed that 76 more persons -including 48 from East Khasi Hills, 4 from West Garo HIlls, 19 from Ri Bhoi and 5 from East Jaintia Hills, have recovered from the viral infection today.
So far, the state has recorded a total of 3,865 positive cases out of which 1,686 are active, 2,151 recovered and 28 have died due to the disease.
East Khasi Hills has the highest number of active cases with 1,124 cases that include 884 civilians and 240 AF/PF, followed by West Garo Hills with 198 cases, 145 in East Jaintia HIlls, 130 in Ri Bhoi, 20 in South Garo Hills, 17 in East Garo Hills, 14 in West Khasi Hills, 13 in West Jaintia Hills, 12 in North Garo Hills, 8 in South West Garo Hills and 5 in South West Khasi Hills.
Till date, a total of 1, 15,901 samples have been tested of which 1, 11,073 were found to be negative while test results of 964 are awaited. There are 36,202 entrants from outside the state.
