Meghalaya: Two women succumbs to COVID-19, toll at 75
The state on Friday recorded two more deaths due to COVID-19 taking the toll to 75.
72-year-old Merilyn Pakyntein, who tested positive for COVID-19, died at her residence at Qualapatty at 12.05 pm on Thursday while 65-year-old Wailin Syiemlieh passed away at the Shillong civil hospital today, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.
He said Syiemlieh, a resident of Langtor Mairang, was referred to Shillong civil hospital from Dr H Gordon Robert’s hospital on October 6.
“She expired at 2.20 am today and the cause of death was because of respiratory failure due to COVID-19 pneumonia with severe ARDS with cancer,” he said.
The state has also recorded 139 new cases and 90 new recovered on Friday.
The new cases include 71 from East Khasi Hills district, 21 Ri Bhoi district, 12 West Garo Hills district, 12 West Khasi Hills district, 7 East Garo Hills district, 7 East Jaintia Hills district, 6 West Jaintia Hills district, 2 South Garo Hills district and 1 North Garo Hills district.
Out of the 90 recovered COVID-19 patients, Dr War said, 37 are from East Khasi Hills, 25 Ri Bhoi, 16 West Garo Hills, 4 East Garo Hills, 3 South Garo Hills, 2 South West Garo Hills and 1 each in East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills.
He said 5,735 COVID-19 patients have been discharged as on date.
The state has detected a total of 7,991 COVID-19 out of which 2,492 are active cases, 5,735 recovered and 75 deaths.
East Khasi Hills district tops the list of districts in positive cases with 1,721 infections, that include 39 Armed Forces and Paramilitary Forces and 1,682 civilians, followed by Ri Bhoi 329 and West Garo Hills 183.
In the other districts, 84 cases in West Jaintia Hills, 40 in South Garo Hills, 32 in East Garo Hills, 26 in North Garo Hills, 21 in South West Garo Hills, 20 in South West Khasi Hills, 19 in West Khasi Hills and 17 in East Jaintia Hills.
“Till date, swab samples of 1,83,808 persons have been tested of which 1,75,505 were found negative,” the senior medical official said.
There are 49,087 entrants from outside the state.
