Meghalaya unveils historic high-mast flags in Shillong on Independence Day
On the momentous occasion of India’s 78th Independence Day, the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly proudly unveiled two high-mast national flags in Shillong, the capital city. The flags were hoisted and inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the presence of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma and Dr Andrew Simons, Commissioner & Secretary of the Assembly.
The first flag, standing 100 feet tall, overlooks the bustling Police Bazar, while the second flag, measuring 52.5 feet, is prominently positioned in front of the Legislative Assembly’s Administrative Block in Khyndailad.
The Independence Day celebration also featured the presence of Cabinet Ministers Marcuise N Marak and AL Hek, as well as officers and staff from the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. A special musical performance by The Aroha Choir, dedicated to honoring freedom fighters, was part of the event.
Speaker Thomas A Sangma expressed his pride, stating, “Today, on this Independence Day, I am very proud to be unfurling the first high-mast national flags in the State.” He added that this is a proud moment for the people of Shillong and the state of Meghalaya, and that the sight of the national flag soaring high will undoubtedly evoke a deep sense of patriotism in everyone.
