Meghalaya wants 16 more border haats & one LCS
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma informed the Government has submitted proposals to Central Govt for creation of 16 new border haats, upgradation of the four Land Custom Stations into full-fledged Integrated Check Posts and establishment of one Land Custom Station at Umkiang, East Jaintia Hills.
In his budget speech, Sangma said Meghalaya shares a 443 km long international border with Bangladesh and increasing cross-border trade will impact growth and prosperity.
He also said the government has been pursuing the agenda of international boundary with the Union Government over the last few years.
Sangma said that the inclusion of the 100 km long new multimodal transportation link, from Hili in West Bengal to Mahendraganj in Meghalaya via Bangladesh in the Joint Statement of the Prime Ministers of India and Bangladesh is a positive development for Meghalaya.
The Chief Minister informed, “We have 10 Land Custom Stations, 5 Border Haats and one Integrated Check Post at Dawki – Tamabil, which is under construction.”
