Meghalaya win last match of Women’s Senior One Day Trophy
Meghalaya concluded their sixth and last Plate Group match of the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy with a 12-run victory over Arunachal Pradesh in Kolkata today.
With four wins and two defeats, Meghalaya ended in third place in the group.
Today Arunachal won the toss and chose to field first. Luiza Tamang (pictured) delivered a top performance on a challenging day with the bat and scored 48 at the top of the order. Her innings came off 70 deliveries and consisted of eight boundaries. Two other batters made it to a score of 21 exactly – guest player Vaincy Chaudhary and stand-in captain Daiaka Warjri – but Meghalaya struggled against the bowling of Mai Mekh (5/25) and were all out for 127.
The Meghalaya bowlers, though, came up with the goods, dismissing Arunachal for 115. A string of wickets saw Arunachal reduced to 50/5 but a stable partnership of 52 doubled the team’s score and almost achieved victory. However, a run out effected by Chaudhary gave Meghalaya the opening the team needed and the other batters were knocked over for a handful of runs. There were four run outs in all but among the Meghalaya bowlers Ajima Sangma claimed 2/20 in nine economical overs, while Rebeldalis Syiemlieh (1/8), Deiphibapynshngain Lyngdoh Mawnai (1/12), Sandria Momin (1/12) and Warjri (1/16) all bagged one wicket each.
