Meghalaya witnesses surge in COVID-19 as 40 persons test positive
The state has witnessed sudden rise in COVID-19 cases after 40 more persons were tested positive for the viral infection on Sunday.
Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War said the new cases include 26 from East Khasi Hills district, 11 West Jaintia Hills district and 3 Ri Bhoi district.
He said the five patients have also recovered from the infection out of which 4 are from East Khasi Hills district and 1 from Ri Bhoi district.
So far, the state has detected a total of 13,845 COVID-19 cases out of which 137 are active cases, 13,601 recovered and 147 deaths.
East Khasi Hills has 92 active cases, Ri Bhoi 22, West Jaintia Hills 16, West Khasi Hills 4, East Jaintia Hills 2 and West Garo Hills 1.
On the other hand, of the 3,45,293 persons who have tested for COVID-19 in the state as on date, 3,31,408 were tested negative for the virus even as 35 persons are in institutional quarantine and 102 under home quarantine.
There are 89,754 entrants from outside the state.
