Meghalaya’s 3rd College of Nursing inaugurated in Shillong
The third Nursing College in the State of Meghalaya christened as Dr. H Gordon Roberts Hospital College of Nursing, Shillong was formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday.
The first nursing college to be set in Meghalaya was NEIGRHIMS College of Nursing, Mawdiangdiang followed Woodland Institute of Nursing, Laitkor.
Sangma said, “From a humble beginning of School of Nursing with just two students to the College of Nursing as it stands today, the hospital, its staff and faculty have overcome the challenges and it is heartening to note that the College of Nursing is being inaugurated in the 50th Year of the Statehood.”
With the backing, guidance and support of the Presbyterian church this college will produce nurses who will not only save lives but also make a difference in people’s lives, he observed.
The Chief Minister said there is a huge opportunity for our youth in the next few years to be employed in various sectors in countries like Japan and Thailand where the population is aging.
He suggested an option of Japanese or Thai language in its curriculum so that as these young people do their nursing course they also learn the language and culture which can help them in their future career.
He also assured of all help and support to the hospital and the college in its service to mankind and the society.
