Meghalaya’s Chief Minister vows game changing economic development in the wake of poverty report
Days after the NITI Aayog report naming Meghalaya to be the second poorest state in the country, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma oozed confidence that the next five years will be defining years of economic development in the state.
Delivering a speech at the Diamond Jubilee celebration of teaching Science in Shillong College, the CM announced that the government will soon come up with a comprehensive economic policy with very steep goals and targets that we have set for the state in the next five years.
He said, “We will share it with the public very soon. That will be an important game-changer in terms of overall economic development and prosperity of our state. These next five years is going to be very defining moments for the state of Meghalaya. The kind of plans that we have been planning for the next five years – we had challenges because of COVID, the ideas were there but no resources, we may have the resources but no manpower.”
However, he assured that the ideas which started off with a thought about three-four years back are at the point of implementation.
“As I said, these next five years will be very important and game-changing years from an economic point of view for our state,” he said.
The CM observed that colleges, universities and research institutes play an important role in the economic plan of the state and urged the students to be part of the state’s economic plan.
“I would want our boys and girls to be part of this economic change and development,” he said.
