Meghalaya’s Committee on Environment asks govt to take a stand on EIA, 2020
The Assembly’s Committee on Environment (CoE) has asked the state government to take a stand on the draft Environment Impact Assessment (EIA), 2020.
“We want the state government to take a stand on this very contentious issue,” Chairman of the Committee and legislator of Mawphlang, SK Sunn told reporters after a meeting held on Friday.
According to him, submission of views and comments on the EIA, 2020 has been extended till August 11.
When asked, Sunn said that the attempt by the new draft to reduce public consultation to 20 days is a concern adding the period for public consultation was 45 days as per the 2006 notification.
“We do not want the period for public consultation to be reduced from 45 days to 20 days and we want that public consultation to be a must for any projects to be set up in the state,” he added.
Meanwhile, sources informed that the state government is likely to discuss the issue related to the EIA, 2020 on August 4.
