Meghalaya’s first Model Kitchen Shed opens in Jowai
The Deputy Commissioner of West Jaintia Hills District, BS Sohliyah, IAS, on November 14 inaugurated Meghalaya’s first Model Kitchen Shed-Cum-Store & Dining at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Jowai. The facility, built under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) Scheme, aims to improve meal services for students.
The inauguration coincided with Children’s Day celebrations organized by the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer.
Addressing the gathering, DC Sohliya emphasized the importance of cherishing childhood moments and encouraged students to pursue their studies diligently, stressing the value of ambition and resilience.
A.P. Syiem, Joint Director of School Education & Literacy and Incharge SDSEO, highlighted that this is the first such facility in the state. She also discussed the PM Poshan Scheme’s goal to provide equal nutritional support to all children, regardless of gender. She added that the scheme encourages school attendance and aims to reduce dropout rates through nutritious meals supported by on-site kitchen gardens.
Children’s Day celebrations included teacher-led activities and the distribution of sweets to students, making the day memorable for all involved.
