Meghalaya’s IT policy set to roll out soon, paving the way for tech hub growth
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the government is working towards improving the overall connectivity in the State through optical fiber.
Delivering his speech at the 247.ai CSR function at Shillong Technology Park on Friday,
Sangma said that the government is looking forward to have a strong internet connectivity all the way to the village level.
He informed that the Meghalaya Electricity Corporation Limited (MeECL) and a national agency will work toward a complete optical fibre throughout the state within a month or so.
The CM assured of a mobile connectivity and almost close to 1000 new towers are being constructed and likely to have 4G and 5G connectivity in villages.
Sangma said that the government will also inaugurate the Integrated Command Center for Shillong which is part of the Smart City Project.
He said ICC will be monitoring the entire security arrangements, traffic arrangements and all of these aspects through almost close to 300 CCTVs across the city and then further the other towns will be connected to it and this will be a complete Integrated Command Centre and we are hopeful that the work will be completed soon.
He also informed that the work for Shillong Data Centre is underway in which the tender will likely come up.
The CM said that the government will be starting the Tech Park in Tura very soon and hoped to spread it across very soon.
“We are also exploring and working towards ensuring that the submarine link or the cable link at Chittagong is accessible to Shillong,” he added.
Sangma informed that in a few weeks the government will roll out the IT Policy of the State.
He also added that it is also important for the society to realize the positive work that is going on in the IT sector and support it. “We are keen that Shillong should become one of the key IT hubs and gradually spread the It sector to other parts of the State,” he added.
Sangma said that he would like to see BPOs not as business people and not as individuals who come to the State for the opportunities that are present but as partners in the growth of the state.
