Meghalaya’s Kishan Lyngdoh and Sikkim’s Samayita Roy Prodhan Win Best Player Awards
Glamour filled the State Convention Centre on Saturday as the North East Cricket Development Council (NECDC) honoured top players, officials, and teams from the BCCI 2023-24 domestic season.
Key awards went to Meghalaya’s Kishan Lyngdoh (Best Male Player) and Sikkim’s Samayita Roy Prodhan (Best Female Player). Emerging Player awards were given to Nagaland’s Aloto Sumi and Manipur’s Sheikh Neha.
This third Achievers’ Awards Night followed the NECDC’s ninth conclave, where it was decided to rename the body from Committee to Council. Formed in 2016, NECDC achieved full BCCI membership for six North East states in 2018 and has since focused on cricket development in the region. This year, the Meghalaya Cricket Association hosted the event.
Kishan Lyngdoh scored 937 runs in the Ranji Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy, including Meghalaya’s first double century in the Ranji Trophy. Samayita Roy Prodhan amassed 362 runs in U-23 women’s tournaments. Aloto Sumi excelled in the U-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy with 641 runs and 33 wickets, while Neha contributed 107 runs and four wickets in the U-15 Girls One Day Trophy.

MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor praised the efforts of NECDC cricketers, while MCA President Nababrata Bhattacharjee recounted the journey to full BCCI membership. He urged players to aim higher and leverage BCCI’s support for further success. BCCI laid the foundation for indoor cricket facilities in the NECDC states, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure development.
