Meghalaya’s tough season in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy ends with seven consecutive losses
Meghalaya lost their last and final match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023 T20 tournament to Baroda in Jaipur by seven wickets on Friday.
Batting first after losing the toss, Meghalaya played out their allotted 20 overs but could only manage 65/8, which Baroda chased down for the loss of three wickets in 5.2 overs of ferocious hitting.
Anish Charak has played several small cameos this season coming in low down the order and today was no different, with the No. 8 hitting 19 not out from 20 deliveries, while his partner for eighth wicket, Akash Kumar Choudhary, made 10 from 13. Earlier, Lerry Sangma contributed 16 from 22 balls in the middle order.
Baroda brushed aside the small total, as they scored at 12.38 runs per over. Meghalaya guest player Rajesh Bishnoi claimed 2/25 in 1.2 overs, while Charak took 1/19 in 2, some personal success in what has been a disappointing campaign where Meghalaya lost all seven of their matches.
Meanwhile, tomorrow, Meghalaya will take on Saurashtra in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy. Yesterday they lost to Chandigarh by 104 runs. Chandigarh made 147/3 batting first after winning the toss, with Ajima Sangma (1/22 in 4), Rebeldalis Syiemlieh (1/27 in 4) and one run out accounting for the wickets to fall. Meghalaya were then restricted to 43/9 in 20 overs, with only Luiza Tamang (15 from 20 deliveries) reaching double figures.
