Meghalaya’s villages bordering Bangladesh finally blessed with all weathered road
After 68 long years of struggle and pleas and court litigation, the people of Huroi, Hingaria, Leijri and Lahalein along Indo Bangladesh border will finally be blessed with an all weathered road which will make their travelling and transportation of goods easy and convenient.
Their wait and struggle came true on Wednesday with the laying of foundation stone for the construction of Sonapur Borkhat Road by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong was done at Huroi village, East Jaintia Hills District.
The Borkhat Sunapur Road (39.594 KMS) will be upgraded under North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) at the cost of Rs 126 Crores.
Tynsong was joined by Sutnga MLA Shitlang Pale, Chief Engineer PWD Rds KK Mawa, DC and SP EJH, two former MLA Nehlang Lyngdoh and Hopeful Bamon, Santa Mary Shylla, Local MDC Emlang Lamare, Seiborlang Shadap & Dr. Sanky Shangpung besides other invitees.
The road will ease the problem of the people of Huroi, Hingaria, Lejri and Lahalein who have been waiting for proper road since 1954.
The local people expressed their happiness as finally their wait is over and expect that the road will be completed soon.
Thousands of people from different villages witnessed the event which is a red later day for the border population.
