Meghalaya’s youth showcase innovation at state-level science mela
The Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, (DSYA), Government of Meghalaya, in collaboration with the SCSTE and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) Meghalaya, concluded the State-Level Science Mela at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) with the theme “Innovation in Science and Technology.” Held from 4th -7th November, 2024 as part of the 2024 Youth Festival Programme, the event featured impressive science exhibits from 12 districts across the state. The event showcased innovative projects from young talents across Meghalaya.
This Science Mela is part of the lead-up to the National Youth Festival 2025, which was celebrated across all 12 districts. Each district featured 4-5 science exhibits, and winners from the District level proceeded to compete the State Level which was held at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU). The Science Mela comprised of both individual and group categories, including 9 individual exhibits and 10 Group Exhibits.
In the group category, West Garo Hills secured first place, with Ri-Bhoi in second place and East Garo Hills in the third place.
In the individual category, Ri-Bhoi District secured first, followed by East Jaintia Hills in second and West Jaintia Hills in third respectively.
Winners from the State Level Science Mela will now represent Meghalaya at the National Level, celebrating scientific innovation as part of the National Youth Festival 2025.
The program emphasized the role of science and technology in addressing real-world challenges, aiming to inspire the next generation of scientific thinkers and problem-solvers in Meghalaya.
