MePDCL intensifying disconnection of power supply to realize outstanding dues: James
Power Minister James K Sangma on Wednesday said the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) has intensified the disconnection of power supply of consumers with outstanding due to improve its revenue flow.
He was replying to a call attention notice tabled in the Assembly by Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem expressing concern over the problem faced by employees of the education department due to disconnection of power supply by the MeECL.
Sangma said the Deputy Inspector of School has an outstanding dues of Rs 10.79 lakh when power supply was disconnected on February 4, this year.
Stating that the MePDCL has intensified the disconnection of power supply of consumers with outstanding dues, the minister said in the past the issue of outstanding has been brought to the notice of the office concerned with a request to clear the outstanding dues.
He said Assistant Executive Engineer, Nongpoh Revenue Sub-Division wrote a letter to Deputy Inspector of School on March 6, last year.
“The dues at that time was Rs 8.52 lakh. It is regretted that no positive response was forth coming and the outstanding dues as on January this year has accumulated to Rs 10.79 lakh,” he added.
Pointing out that the connection is actually for the old building with connected load of 12 KW, Sangma said on January 15, it was found that another connection is taken (without the knowledge or approval of MePDCL authority) from this connection to the new building and the authority is advised to apply for a proper connection.
“MePDCL is disconnecting consumers with outstanding with the sole intention to realize the outstanding dues and reconnection is provided once payment is received,” he said while adding MePDCL is committed to provide a good service to all its consumers and solicit cooperation from all concerns to achieve this task.
