Metbah to pursue demand for creation of new district for Sohra CSD
Assembly Speaker and UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday said he would pursue with the state government for upgradation of the Sohra civil sub division into a district level.
Addressing media persons, Lyngdoh said the demand for Sohra as a new district was part of the discussion held with the state government when late Dr Donkupar Roy was still alive.
He recalled that it was also agreed that Sohra deserved to be upgraded to a new district.
Asked, Lyngdoh, also Mairang legislator, said, “I will pursue this demand also. I will find out from the CM what the problem is and why the same cannot be announced right now. What are the problems though he did mention some geographical problems. What exactly was that I don’t know.”
Lyngdoh said the chief minister has already constituted a committee headed by the chief secretary to look after creation of new districts and new civil sub divisions in the state.
His statement came in the wake of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma announcement of the state government’s decision to upgrade Mairang civil sub division to a district.
Welcoming this, Lyngdoh said Mairang as a new district was already announced by the Chief Minister in March, this year in one of the programmes held in the constituency.
“I was very delighted and happy to see that he has agreed understanding the need and demand of the people of Mairang civil subdivision which comprises of Mawthadraishan and Mairang constituency that it should be upgraded into a district level,” he said
“We have discussed and we have decided that we will inaugurate the new district at the earliest but because of the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns things have slowed down and we have to go by the time and CM again announced that he would like to do it before August 15,” he added.
