MIDC’s BFC launches first awareness program on UNNATI and MIIPP 2024 to boost industrial development in Meghalaya
The Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (MIDC) marked a significant milestone by successfully hosting its first-ever Awareness Program on January 31, 2025, at its Business Facilitation Centre (BFC) in Laitumkhrah, Shillong. This pivotal event was aimed at promoting the UNNATI 2024 (Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme) and the Meghalaya Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (MIIPP) 2024, crucial steps toward realizing the Chief Minister’s vision of transforming Meghalaya into a $10 billion economy.
The program attracted participants from various industrial hubs, including the Byrnihat Industrial Area EPIP, Units in Umian, and the Industrial Growth Centre in Garo Hills, Meghalaya, as well as from the Bamboo Park in Ri Bhoi. Seasoned entrepreneurs from across the state were also present, highlighting the broad interest and relevance of the initiative.
Chairman of MIDC, James PK Sangma, shared his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, “Today’s event not only demonstrates our commitment to industrial growth but also our dedication to establishing Meghalaya as a hub for innovative entrepreneurship, aligning with the Chief Minister’s ambitious economic goals.”
MIDC’s Managing Director, DD Nongmalieh, commented on the successful engagement: “The active participation and positive feedback from today’s sessions are indicative of the substantial potential that UNNATI and MIIP hold for transforming Meghalaya economy in the region.”
During the program, the Chief Manager of the National SC-ST Hub presented an overview of the schemes under the National SC-ST Hub, specifically tailored to support SC/ST entrepreneurs and highlighting how the MSME is committed to going the extra mile to assist entrepreneurs in the Northeast. Additionally, the Northeast DPIIT PIU team delivered a detailed presentation on UNNATI, outlining the scheme’s objectives and benefits specifically designed for the Northeastern region. The BFC team also provided a brief overview of the MIIPP 2024 policy of the Government of Meghalaya.
Head of the BFC and Advisor to MIDC, Kerlang Malngiang, highlighted the effectiveness of the session, stating, ‘Our experts provided crucial insights that will assist local businesses in understanding how to access and maximize the available financial incentives and developmental opportunities in the state. The state’s entrepreneurs have an amazing road ahead with these incentives from both the central and state governments.’
This program not only served as a catalyst for immediate knowledge exchange but also set the stage for ongoing industrial development initiatives in Meghalaya. MIDC appreciates the engagement and feedback from all participants and reaffirms its commitment to host further sessions that contribute to the region’s industrial growth.
