Mining and transportation of coal ban in East Jaintia Hills
The issuance of prohibitory order banning the mining and transportation of coals in East Jaintia Hills District again after it was banned eight years ago is a clear indication that the mining and transportation of coals perhaps never stopped at all.
Notably, in view of the violation of the Supreme Court and the NGT ban on coal mining and its transportations, East Jaintia Hills District Magistrate A Barnawal IAS on Tuesday imposed Section 144 CrPC to stop illegal coal mining and its transportation, which was evident from the recent seizure of freshly mined coals in the district.
The order read, “Any act of mining of coal and illegal storage, dumping of coal in any location (s) within this district is prohibited.”

The order is issued in view of the allegation of ongoing coal mining and illegal transportation of coal in different location (s) in East Jaintia Hills District
The District Magistrate has started the process of ascertaining the legality of coal dumps found across the district and seizure thereof if found illegal.
