Minor boy dies in landslides in Guwahati, 1st wave of flood claims 2 lives, 8 districts affected
The first wave of floods and rain-induced landslides claimed three lives in the state on Wednesday, according to an official report of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA).
A two-year-old male child was killed and his mother was injured when a guard wall collapsed due to landslides in Krishnanagar in the Lal Ganesh area of the city at around 2 pm on Wednesday.
The residential house was completely damaged due to the landslides. The child was watching TV at the time of the incident.
The first wave of floods claimed two lives in the state on Wednesday.
There are reports of the death of two persons at RK Nagar and Patherkandi in Karimganj district, the ASDMA said.
Two persons were also reportedly missing in Lakhpur in Cachar district, the ASDMA said.
The first wave affected 41,719 people from 143 villages under 16 revenue circles in eight districts across the state, the ASDMA stated.
The affected districts are- Nagaon, Hailakandi, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Cachar, Hojai, Golaghat and Karbi Anglong.
Karinganj is the worst affected district with 26,430 people affected in 66 villages under three revenue circles RK Nagar, Nilambazar and Patherkandi.
4,220 people have been affected by urban floods at Ward 14, Ward 13, Ward 19, Ward 16 and Ward 15 of Silchar in Cachar district.
4 relief camps have been opened, including two in RK Nagar and one in Patherkandi in which 155 inmates took shelter.
715 relief distribution centres were also opened for the distribution of food and other relief materials to the affected people.
Four persons, including a school student, died in Assam on Tuesday in incidents triggered by Cyclone Remal, which also caused a trail of destruction bringing down trees, electric poles, thatched houses etc.
Several areas in Guwahati continued to remain without power for the second day on Wednesday because of the many fallen electric poles.
On Wednesday, the Cyclone Remal affected 129 people of 173 villages under 32 revenue circles in 13 districts across the state.
The affected districts are: Kokrajhar, Baksa, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Majuli, Jorhat, Karbi Anglong West, Biswanath and Cachar.
The flood and landslides also affected Dima Hasao district forcing the Northeast Frontier Railway authority to cancel all major trains through Lumding Badarpur Hill Section.
