Minor boy electrocuted in SWKH, KSU demands adequate compensation
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Sanshnong Area Unit has demanded the Meghalaya Power Distribution Coporation Limited (MePDCL) to pay adequate compensation to a minor boy, who was grievously injured after being electrocuted in South West Khasi Hills district.
Astronomis Kharhari, a resident of Pyndenlyngdoh and a class IX student of Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat, was electrocuted on November 23.
He is presently undergoing treatment at the Shillong civil hospital.
KSU SAU general secretary Mansaljune Kharhari said that the union in the past few months had asked the MePDCL to construct fencing around the transformer and to remove electric wire from areas, which are likely to pose danger to people’s lives, especially from Tynnai to Mawbidong in the area.
“Therefore, we strongly demand the MePDCL to pay adequate compensation to the minor boy and to take necessary action to prevent any repeat of such incidents in the future,” he stated.
